Gloria L. Bessenaire

September 16, 1936 – August 8, 2011

DAYVILLE – Gloria L. Bessenaire, 74, of Putnam Road, died Monday at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam with her family by her side. She was the wife of Paul J. Bessenaire; they were married at Our Lady of LaSalette Church in Brooklyn on August 13, 1955. Mrs. Bessenaire was born in Danielson on September 16, 1936, daughter of the late Medeas and Adrienne (Gendron) Perreault. She graduated from St. James School and later from the Putnam Catholic Academy in 1954. She worked for over twenty years for First National Stores. She was a deli manager at Michael’s Market in Danielson when they reopened. She also had been employed at Danco and Allied Control. Her greatest devotion was to her family and her faith. Mrs. Bessenaire was a communicant of St. James Church in Danielson where she was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Society of Mary, Daughters of Isabella, and along with her husband, very active volunteers at the St. James Bazaar. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #2650 and the Fraternal Order of Police Ladies Auxiliary Lodge #3. Besides her husband she is survived by her children, Deborah Coolidge and husband Wayne of South Killingly, Michelle R. Brady and husband John of Sterling, Marianne Bagley and husband Wayne of Oxford, CT, Paul J. Bessenaire Jr. and wife Robin of Lake Wales, FL, Peter J. Bessenaire and wife Debra of Dayville and Patrick J. Bessenaire and wife Heather of Danielson; brothers, Robert Perreault and wife Pauline of Sterling, Raymond Perreault and wife Monique of South Killingly; nineteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Jeanne Bessenaire of South Killingly. She was predeceased by her sister Marguerite Perreault and brothers, Gerard Perreault and Ronald Perreault. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at St. James Church, Danielson. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of Northeastern CT, P.O. Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260 or St. James School, 12 Franklin Street, Danielson, CT 06239. Tillinghast Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Danielson is in charge of arrangements.

California here we come!

Michelle and I have finally made a decision.  We will be making the trip to California for the Brady Family Reunion on August 13.  Ferd and Annetta Comolli, as well as Mark and Dianne Comolli are planning the trip west also.  John and Karen Comolli are looking at possibly going. It will be great getting together with our west coast cousins!

As many know, my mother in law, Gloria Bessenaire, has been receiving chemotherapy.  We are very happy to announce that she has finished chemo and the latest CT scan shows no sign of cancer!  Thank you all for your kind words and prayers.

I am attaching a copy of Grandpa Ulysses father's death certificate for anyone who wants to look at it. I was able to open it with Internet Explorer. I though you might be able to open it for people to see or give them the link on Family Search:

By the way, I just found a link to his grave: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Bisnaire&GSfn=Paul&GSiman=1&GScid=91342&GRid=49758502&. It is the Notre Dame Cemetary in Gardner, Mass, not the one in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. I guess that is because he was living in Mass at the time.


I've found another interesting census with Michelle's great grandfather and 2nd great grandfather living in Cumberland, Rhode Island in 1900. I thought it was very interesting to see that her 2nd great grandmother bore 15 children, with only 8 still living in 1900 when the census was taken. There are only 7 children listed, so I would guess one was out living on their own. I'll see what I can find on that child. I have a source in Canada that may be able to help on the Sauve side. I don't have access to Canadian records in Ancestry.com. I might be able to find them, however, on Family Search in the 1870's or 80's in Canada. All of the kids except Joseph were born in Canada, so I know I'll have to go there to find them.


Also, it was noted that Michelle's great grandfather was a cotton mill laborer, as was his father. The other children, except Joseph who was still in school, were "ring spinntes". You probably know what that is, but I diddn't. Stu seemed to know a little about it and said there were a lot of mills in New England for spinning cotton (and probably wool, too). I went to Wikipedia and found a whole article on "ring spinning".
